Having
roots in 3 different cultures has been and continues to be a very
emotional and moving experience.
My
brother and I are trying to put together a Buffalo-Coker Family
Tree. Towards that end he found a 1920 & 1930 Census on Ancestry.com.
I've put what he found in a PDF file.

My
Black Heritage
Both of my grandmothers were Black
and daughters of freed slaves. Neither of my grandfathers was
Black. That makes me half Black. For the record I am one fourth
Native American (paternal grandfather) and one fourth Japanese
(maternal grandfather)

My
Japanese Heritage
My
maternal grandfather was Japanese which makes me one fourth Japanese.
What little I know about him is anecdotal.
He
was either an orphan who got adopted or was just adopted. Sato
was the family name of his adoptive parents. He apparently was
a fisherman. On a trip to the United States he jumped ship and
asked for and received political assylum. While here he also worked
as chef. He was a great chocolatierre and used to make and sell
them around the neighborhood.

My
Native American Heritage
My
paternal grandfather was Native American. As far as I can tell
he was born in North Carolina and was of the Blackfoot tribe.
I
am planning on a trip to North Carolina as soon as possible to
research this side of my family.
